Bronzie!!

This photo was sent in by Jandre Fraser. It was a Bronze Whaler Shark caught by a friend of his Chad Bailery on Muizenberg beach in the False Bay Coast.

Bronze Whaler Sharks or Bronzies are not dangerous  but will put up a nice fight. They enjoy feeding in the shallow and will often park off in the waves waiting for fish to swim by.

Muizenberg is a great place for shark fishing and there a a couple of species you can catch. An anual shark fishing contest is also held here and lots of sharks are caught.

My prefered method of catching sharks is using a slid rig with a 10oz sand sinker on the end of the line. Than slide out a big fish head and wait for the fun to begin.

Well done Chad !!

Great catch!!

Our fellow reader Ziggy caught this lovely Tuna off Cape Point in the deep sea. He caught it on a Sardine and he says it put up such an amazing fight. Atleast he got his work out for the year :)

Sad day for Tuna

I was in Strand the other day and I saw a couple of guys coming in and they offloaded these beautiful yellow fin tuna. They must have weighed around 50kg or so.

I believe that you should only take what you can eat from the sea otherwise we will deplete or resources and have nothing to catch.

A 50kg Tuna can feed probably 100 people and they have taken about 6 or so out and that meat will more than likely go to waste.

Large African Sharp Tooth Catfish

African Sharp Tooth Catfish or should I say Barbel to the locals if an amazing fish to catch. They can become very aggressive and enjoy feeding on dead matter and live baits.

I have caught lots of Barbel and they have always put up a big fight. They have very sharp sandpaper like teeth and can hurt your hand if not handeled properly.

This one below I caught at a private dam at night on floating crust. I was actually targeting Carp and this bad boy smashed my bread. It put up an amazing fight.

Unlike Carp Barbel do not surface when hooked until the last minute. Carp tire out when they are exposed to the surface so Barbel will always have alot of energy and fight in them.

This Cat weighed in at about 16 KG.

Foating Crust

Myself with a 7kg Carp ( weighed )

Myself with another Catfish caught on crust. Even though they are predators they do enjoy taking on bread.

Darren with a 7kg Carp caught on crust ( weighed )

Fishing is also great fun for the kiddies, they could be our next big anglers. ;)

This was the biggest catch. A nice 9.2 KG ( weighed ). Beautiful Specimen.

From left to right. Klaus, Darren and Me all on at the same time on crust.

Another double whammy!!

Darren with a nice Specimen.

Whoop Whoop another one for me, thats 6 so far in 1 hr. Classic fishing :)

Lee Ann with her first Carp. Well Done Baby!!!!

Look at how beautiful this Carp is, not bad for alien fish.

Floating Crust Fishing is probably my favorite style of Carp fishing. Its the thrill of seeing the carp smash your bread and suck those slices down. I love being able to see the fish and target them. Its a very interactive style of fishing.

The Crust Guru will be back with more soon....
